Aphelion 2016 Grenache Pressings

$29.00 per bottle

Summary: This wine is all about spice and texture. The Grenache skins hold strong spicy and earthy characters that often only get released when the skins are pressed. This wine abounds with plush tannin and earthy characters meshed with red berry fruit.

Look: Clear, bright, cherry red.

We smell: Earth, spice, red berry fruit, and olive.

Body: Medium bodied palate weight.

Texture: Prominent but fine tannin with juicy balanced acidity.

We taste: Dark red berry and olive with a spicy complexity. Rounded tannins provide a good platform for the fruit on the palate.

Goes With Food: Spiced chicken, spinach & sweet potato stew will match the body of the wine and also its spicy characters.

Goes With Cheese: Gruyere is a good match which won’t overpower the medium body of the wine.

Goes With Music: Bruce Springsteen – Thunder Road

Goes With Life: One to crack open when the philosophical discussions are about to commence.

Serve At: 18 degrees Celsius. Unfined & unfiltered so some sediment may remain – we recommend decanting.

When to Drink: Ready to drink now, but will continue evolving through to 2022.

Winemaking : Hand picked 80 year old single vineyard bush vine Grenache from Blewitt Springs was split into two separate ferments. One whole berries, and one whole bunches of grapes.

Both batches were fermented to dryness, with free run juice transferred to neutral French oak barriques.

The remainder of the ferments was basket pressed into neutral French oak barriques where they matured for 9 months prior to bottling in December 2016. Unfined & unfiltered.

Production: 300 bottles produced under screwcap.
